ASSOCIATION FOR SOCIAL HEALTH IN INDIA
HARYANA STATE BRANCH,
ASHIANA, SECTOR - 16, PANCHKULA.

 

Activities of ASHI, Haryana for the year 2006-07

The main objectives of the Association include promotion of Education, training and rehabilitation of women and children in need of care and protection, to spread awareness in the society at large and younger generation in particular regarding the social evils afflicting our society and also to inculcate moral values amongst children. Keeping in view all these objectives, following activities were taken up by the Association in the previous financial year:

1. Continued maintenance of the Children's Home (Children in need of Care and Protection), ASHIANA, Sector- 16, Panchkula.
2. Awareness Generating Programmes :- Seminars/Declamation, Painting Competitions/Contests etc. on the Social Evils affecting the Society in the State of Haryana
3. Establishment of computer learning center.
4. Launch of our web-site ashi-haryana.org

 

1. ASHIANA, Panchkula :- The Children's Home (Children in need of Care &
Protection) "ASHIANA" is functioning very well in our own building at Sector -16, Panchkula, The number of children varies between 60 and 62 children. All the children are provided with all necessities including shelter, food, clothes, education, health care, games, T.V., computer etc. There is a Supervisor, one Warden, two house mothers one Cook, two helpers, two part time sweepers, two part time teachers and a gardener to look after day-today work of the Home. The administration is being looked after by the head office which is also situated in the same building.

 

 

 

EDUCATION :-

1. All the children are studying in local schools and all children passed in their classes. Most of the children got above 60% marks in their final exams. The Sikhya School, City Heart High School, Blue Bird High School, Hansraj Public School & Govt. School, Sector-17, where all our children are studying do not charge any tuition fee from us.

 

 

 

2. Tuition for Children: Three teachers help the children with their homework and any difficulties in studies. With their help all our children are able to cope-up with their studies.
3. IN-HOUSE PREPARATORY SCHOOL :- Association started one in-house preparatory school for Ashiana children who needed extra preparation to get integrated in the regular school later on.
4. SPONSORSHIP FOR HIGHER STUDIES :- One girl child of Ashiana has3 been sponsored for Nursing course in Philadelphia College of Nursing, Ambala City. She is now doing her final year of the course.

 

HEALTH CARE :- All the children are keeping good health. For minor illnesses & emergencies, local private practitioners, Dr. Anuj Bhargava, Bhargava Clinic, Sector- 16, Panchkula, Dr. Arun Dua, Child Specialist, Shri Ram Clinic, Sector- 11, Panchkula, Dr. Suvikram, Jyoti, Eye Specialist & Dr. (Mrs.) Suman Jyoti, Dental Surgeon, Jyoti Dental & Eye Care Center, Sector- 16, Panchkula Dr. Anil Gupta, Sector- 16, Panchkula, and Dr. Poonam Gupta of Gupta Nursing Home, Sector 16, Panchkula, provided medical help to the children. In other cases children are provided medical help by the General Hospital, Sector - 6, Panchkula.

 

CELEBRATIONS :- All the Religious & National festivals were celebrated in ASHIANA, Panchkula.

INDEPENDENCE DAY :- Independence Day 15th August-2006 the Nationa'I . I
was hoisted by President, Lion's Club (Mid-Town) Chandigarh.

 

 


DIWALI:- The members/well wishers of ASHI celebrated the festival of lights Diwali with Ashiana Children. The children decorated the home with lights & candles and rangoli and celebrated with sweets & crackers.

 

 

X-MAS :- X-Mas function was celebrated with children and members on 22nd December, 2006. The Chief Guest for the evening was the wife of Chief' Secretary, Haryana, Mrs. Saroj Prashant, The X-mas function dinner for children and guests was sponsored by the Canara Bank, Sector-16, Panchkula, All children were presented gifts by the Association.

LOHRI:- Lohri Was celebrated with gaiety at Ashiana Children's Home, whereby many members and donors of the Association also joined in. The Children made a big bonfire and welcomed the guests with warm emotions & love.

REPUBLIC DAY :- Republic Day, 26th January, 2007, the National Flag was hoisted by Mr. Sameer Goel, M.D. of Infosys, Chandigarh. The Divine Life Society, Chandigarh-Panchkula Branch, organized a medical camp for Ashiana Children on the same day.

 

 

2. AWARENESS GENERATING PROGRAMMES :-

 During the year 2006-2007 Seminars/Declamation Contests/Talks etc were held in rural and urban areas of two districts of Haryana, on social evils prevailing in the society, women empowerment and health issues related to women & children.

i)          Story telling workshop for children :-
Resource person Mr. Rajesh Chadha, a well-know story-teller, artist and philanthropist from Chandigarh - on 14 May, 2006.3

ii)         A workshop for children :- Provided training in yoga, meditation, developing concentration techniques and inculcating moral values- in collaboration with 'Art of Living'- resource person - Ms. Rajni of AOL- on 20th to 26th Nov. 2007.

iii)        An interactive session for Staff of ASHI & Ashiana :-
Maintaining positive attitude while working with children -
Resource person Sh. K.Pawan, President, Sri Aurobindo Education Society, Patiala - on 9th December, 2007- This developmental workshop for the staff of ASHI & Ashiana was quite useful and thought provoking.

iv)        Value addition in education for school children :-
organized a story writing competition in City Heart School, Sector-10, Panchkula on the themes of 'Honesty and Friendship' on 19th Jan. 2007. The prizes were distributed to the winners of the contest on 26th January, 2007.

 

 

CELEBRATION OF FOUNDATION DAY OF ASHIANA :- His Excellency Governor Haryana, Dr. A.R. Kidwai visited Ashiana on 20" November, 2006 and highly appreciated the excellent work being done by ASHI, Haryana Branch. The children presented a highly spirited performance which received great appreciation from all guests present.

 

 

 

v)         Seminar/ declamation contest at Ambala :- The Declamation contests organized at Philadelphia Hospital at Ambala on 10-03-07 for the student of Nursing and Laboratory on the subject:-

Role of education in shaping the society.

Money vs Morality

About 100 participants from Philadelphia Hospital students/staff participated in the competition and expressed their views on the above subjects.

The prize distribution function was presided over by the Director, Dr. Sunil Sadique & special guest Mrs. Vijay Aggarwal, Vice-President & Dr. (Mrs.) Vibha Taluja, Hony. Joint Secretary of ASHI, Haryana State Branch, were the judges for this contest and shared her views on the same subjects with the participants.

3.         ESTABLISHMENT OF COMPUTER LEARNING CENTRE:-

A computer lab has been established in the premises of Ashiana children's Home, where the children of Ashiana are developing their softer skills to be at per with their counterparts.

 

 

4.         Launch of our web-site ashi-haryana.org :- By placing our Association on the net, we have placed all the information regarding our projects, people and funding etc to make it's working transparent and also to our organization an international outlook and exposure.

 

With the co-operation of all it's members and the people of the local society we are enthused to do much more in the coming years. I thank all the members and donors for their continuous support to our organization.
